SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said that coal mining plan is under preparation which will include guidelines on health, occupational safety and other related issues. Replying to a question by James Sangma (NPP), Sangma said in the Assembly on Friday that as per  the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the State Government submitted a proposal on the Mining Plan to the Secretary, Ministry of Coal vide letter dated 23.072014 and to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests vide letter dated 23.07.20 14.
“In pursuance of that proposal, the Ministry of’ Coal, Government of India has constituted an Expert Group led by the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd to prepare broad guidelines for the mining of coal in Meghalaya and also guidelines regarding health, occupational safety and other related issues,” he said.
