Jaintia bodies petition Laloo on college issue

JOWAI: The leaders of various pressure groups  in Jaintia Hills have jointly submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education RC Laloo on the protest recent carried out by the students of Kiang Nangbah Government College for their long pending demands.
The groups including  the JSU, JYF, KSU, HNPF and others informed the Deputy Chief Minister that the students of the Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai had recently undertaken a procession on the November to request the Government to meet their genuine demands.
“However, the peaceful procession took an ugly turn when the district administration under the order of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, Arunkumar Kembhavi and the Additional  Superintendent of Police, Shemphang Syrti gave an unprecedented order to use tear gas and lathi charge at the otherwise peaceful protest”, the letter stated. The leaders also stated that many students were injured and had to be admitted to Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai and few at Jowai Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, these leaders  have also demanded that the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills and the Additional. Superintendent of Police be transferred from the District within 15 days for ordering the use of excessive force against the peaceful students some of whom are in uniform.
Compensation to those students who were injured and the withdrawal of FIR against the pressure groups including leaders of the KNGCSU filed by the district administration were among other demands.
