KHADC CEM PN Syiem skips ‘unity’ meet
CM downplays no confidence against Speaker

SHILLONG: The Congress Legislature Party and the Congress-led MUA-II, which met here on Wednesday, asked all party men and independent MLAs who are supporting the government to demonstrate unity in fulfilling the promises made by the government to the people of the State.
Speaking to media persons after the meetings, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the meeting also discussed Bills like the Meghalaya Residents Safety Security Bill, 2016, enhancement of corpus fund and ratification of the GST Bill in the upcoming Assembly session.
Reacting to a query about the no confidence motion moved against Speaker A.T Mondal, Sangma said all members of the House must know their priorities and the important issues before the State and the time available to them in the Assembly must be utilized for the benefit of the State.
“If they think that their agenda is to help the State, I leave it to their wisdom to decide,” he said.
When asked about his expectations from the two newly inducted ministers – RV Lyngdoh and MM Danggo – in the upcoming session, Sangma said he has no reasons to doubt the duo’s capabilities and good intention.
When asked about the short duration of the autumn session, he said it was the Business Advisory Committee that decided the duration of the session even as he added that the robust system of summoning the session as per the Constitution is practised throughout the country, including Parliament.
“There is no room to shift the blame on the Government for the short duration of the session,” he said.
Meanwhile, the meeting was not attended by KHADC CEM P.N Syiem and a few other MLAs.
However, the Chief Minister downplayed the issue saying many MLAs and some ministers had informed about their inability to attend the meeting on Wednesday.
