SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) slammed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for his statement to recreate Ampati.
In a statement here, the MPCC youth wing said, “Conrad Sangma said that they are going to ‘recreate’ Ampati. What kind of ‘recreation’ is he talking about? When they were in the opposition, they were always complaining that all the developmental schemes were being diverted to Ampati when in reality there was overall development in the whole state.” “When the National People’s Party (NPP) has been complaining about too much development coming to Ampati, how can he say that Ampati is underdeveloped?… So by saying that he is going to recreate Ampati, he means to say that he will undo everything that Former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has done in the last 20 years and return it to the backwardness that Conrad Sangma and his family envisions for Garo Hills,” it said.
While counter attacking the MDA government, the Congress youth stated, Conrad Sangma emphasises that they are the ones forming the government at the state. Isn’t this too much talk coming from someone who isn’t even elected to the Assembly yet.
If they are so powerful forming a government then how is it that they are unable to disburse the salaries of the GHADC employees till date.
“When Congress was forming the government at the state and they were in the opposition, were they not the ones who were pointing fingers at the government saying that the Congress government was withholding the funds meant for the GHADC? Now that they have formed the government, they are also a part of the NDA government at the centre and they have formed the Executive Council at the GHADC, why are the funds not flowing and the GHADC employees not being paid their salaries?” the statement said.
The youth wing also pointed out that Sangma accepted the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of the growth of the state in the agriculture sector in March, a few days after formation of their government adding “This award was given for the hard work done by the previous state government in promoting the agriculture sector. This is just like the Garo proverb where the pig does all the work and the dog comes at the end, puts his footprints all over the place and claims the credit. Was that not an act of shameless credit stealing?”
Questioning the credibility of the chief minister, they said he is already a Member of Parliament, but his greed is such that he tried to get himself nominated as an MDC and be nominated the CEM, which never happened and now, he gets himself nominated the Chief Minister of Meghalaya without even getting elected as an MLA and in the process he is making a football of his sister Agatha Sangma who worked hard and was elected MLA of South Tura constituency only to now having to resign.
“If family members can become footballs for him, just think of what he can do to other people. Maybe the MDCs are more intelligent than the MLAs because they rejected his ploy to become the CEM,” the statement said.
In 2013, Thomas Sangma was a Rajya Sabha MP, but he was made to resign before his term was over and stand for the state assembly elections, which he unfortunately lost. If Conrad Sangma is really the leader that he projects himself to be, maybe he should have resigned his Lok Sabha MP seat and stood the elections and if he got elected and became the chief minister, more respect to him. But instead, he hides behind his partymen, making deals with his BJP masters and once his masters have made the way clear for them to form the government, swoops down and claim the chief minister’s seat for himself, the youth wing said.
While expressing confidence over Ampati by-poll the Congress youth wing states that NPP had to advertise in newspaper inviting anyone willing to contest in Ampati constituency. Perhaps Conrad Sangma chickened out  to contest  in Ampati knowing the fact that they would be fighting a losing battle hence narrowing down to the candidate who has already been rejected by the people of Ampati three times It’s a known fact that NPP/ BJP had to field somebody to save their skin else Miani Shira would have gone uncontested.
