SHILLONG: The BJP and UDP leaders met former Congress leader DD Lapang on Friday to explore the possibilities of roping him in their respective parties.
First, UDP leader Bindo Lanong met Lapang and later, a four-member delegation of BJP led by Shibun Lyngdoh and David Kharsati interacted with him separately.
Former general secretary of Shillong city Congress S. Dam also met him.
Kharsati admitted that they met Lapang but added that it was a courtesy call as he was such a tall leader who quit the Congress after serving long years.
According to Kharsati, the BJP delegation prayed for his health. “We did not make any offer, but his response was that before joining any political party, he will consult his supporters,” Kharsati said.
Sources said Lapang was happy that various political parties were interested in him.He also conveyed to the leaders of these political parties that he was committed to serve the people in whatever way possible.
During the meeting with both UDP and BJP leaders, Lapang informed them that the NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had also met him.
