Imphal: Students across the nation and political parties protested the alleged militarisation of the Manipur University complex.
The Manipur government continued to block internet services for the third day on Sunday after the crackdown on the Manipur University complex.
Committee of political parties consisting of Congress, Left and other political parties on Sunday condemned the attack on students by security personnel at the University complex on Friday midnight.
Reports came in from across the nation decrying the actions on students. Students who were studying in hostels were shot at and were not allowed to come out.
Over 100 students and six Professors were detained and the Manipur University authority has suspended the six Professors detained by police.
The Manipur University complex looked remained guarded by paramilitary forces and parents of the hostelers were not allowed to enter the hostels.
RK Anand of Congress said the government was resorting to repressive measures and terrorising students.
The Human Resource Ministry was issuing conflicting orders thus creating problems in the University he said.
A conspiracy is going on to support suspended VC, Prof AS Pandey he said. He demanded summoning of the Assembly to discuss the matter and other issues like Naga framework.
Prof Pandey was given forced leave and later suspended for alleged mismanagement of fund and remaining out of station most of the time.
A probe has also started and Prof Pandey has been asked to appear before the Committee.
When complete normalcy was restored after three months of closure of the University the Union Human Resource Ministry instructed two persons appointed by Prof Pandey when he was on leave and period of suspension to take charge as Pro Vice- Chancellor and Registrar.
Former Congress MLA and former VC of Manipur University Prof, Ng Bijoy said any order issued by a person on forced leave and suspension has to be considered null and void.
The Human Resource ministry has asked the persons appointed by Pandey to take all key persons.
During the two years of Prof Pandey as VC all statutory offices like Registrar, Controller of Examinations were made to look after by in charge staff and the Chancellor was never invited to convene mandatory meetings.
Dr Bijoy said entry of security personnel inside hostels should be done with the approval of the VC and warden should be present.
Dr M Nara of the CPI said the government seems to take the Manipur University as the Pakistan border and the day of attacking the University will be considered as a dark day. It is a mockery of democracy.
The government is least bothered about the students and most of the students and parents were hesitant to study under the University.
It will remain an institute with Pandey, the building and few persons selected by Pandey he said.
Attempt was made to sabotage the enquiry against Pandey as two people appointed by Pandey when he was given forced leave, Prof K Yugindro as Pro-VC and Registrar in-charge, Prof M Shyamkesho were instructed to break the keys and forcibly assume charge.
The Pro VC said he took charge as he was instructed by officials of Human Resource Ministry.
Students and political parties have expressed fear that the documents may have been tampered or manipulated as seals were broken by officials close to Pandey. (UNI)
