TURA: The District Executive Force of the North Garo Hills Police organised a ‘Martyrs Commemoration Marathon Run’ at Resubelpara on Thursday to commemorate civilian martyrs as well as those from the police department, who were killed in the hands of militants during the last few years.
The event was mostly aimed at paying respect to police and other security personnel who laid down their lives in their fight against militants.
The run began from Dekachang Playground and continued through the main thoroughfares of Resubelpara and culminated at the starting venue.
“I pay my homage to those heroes and martyrs who laid down their lives in their fight to successfully overcome terrorists in Garo Hills. It is in their memory and to pay respect to them that the event is being organised,” North Garo Hills SP Dr Sacheng R Marak said.
A member of a local peace committee said that it was befitting that such an event has been organised in memory of the fallen martyrs. He said that the same would also strengthen ties between police and the public and the future.
