DDMA Ri-Bhoi observes disaster reduction day

NONGPOH:  Together with the rest of the country, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) , Ri Bhoi district, Nongpoh in collaboration with the Eastern Panorama Foundation, Shillong observed the National Disaster Reduction Day in a function held at the District Library hall, Nongpoh.

The programme included Drawing and Painting Competition under the theme “Disaster Management”, Essay Competition under the topic “Role of School Community in Disaster Management and School Safety”, Quiz Competition on “Disaster Management & Environment, Extempore Speech on Disaster Management etc for the school students.

Mrs Rosetta Mary Kurbah, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District was the Chief Guest on the programme. Delivering her speech, Kurbah congratulated the winners of different competitions as well as the participants from various schools in the district for taking part in the competitions through which the students could learn and equip themselves with adequate knowledge as to the DOs & DON’Ts in case of disaster occurs.

“In a competition there are winner and loser but knowledge goes to both,” she said and appreciated the teachers for their efforts in the preparation of their students to take part in the competitions and this would in turn benefit not only the students but also their relations, friends and neighbours at time of calamity, she added.

The programme was concluded with the prize distribution to the winners by the chief guest.
