GUWAHATI: The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) has been conferred ‘University of the Year’ Award by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at the 14th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2018: A Global Conference & Exhibition held in New Delhi on October 30, 2018.
The ADBU received the prestigious award among all the universities in India, which are in existence for one to ten years, according to a press communique.
Mr. R Subrahmanyam, Secretary-Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India, gave away the 5th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards to 13 Educational Institutions and eminent personalities in the field of education. The award recognises the achievements of educational institutions and personalities that have contributed towards the development of the sector in the country. The award was received by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Fr Joseph Nellanatt on behalf of the University.
“It is indeed a proud moment for our university. Our University was also received a Certificate of Special mention for Institutional Social Commitment. At Don Bosco University, We want to make Social Commitment as our institutional distinctiveness,” said Fr Joseph Nellanatt.
“If we compare the national scenario of literacy, at least 20 per cent of our population cannot read and write. Only ten per cent of the country’s total population has passed Class X. So, we believe, it is our responsibility on the part of the University to contribute to the society,” he said adding that the ADBU is already engaged in significant activities in the university’s neighbourhood.
“It is our commitment to ensure that the villages located near our university also develop as our university develops,” he added.
