GUWAHATI: An National People’s Party candidate of Autonomous District parliamentary constituency in Karbi Anglong has appealed to the Election Commission of India for re-poll in two Assembly segments in the wake of alleged pressure from an armed organisation to vote “only for BJP”.

In a letter to the poll body, NPP Assam candidate, Lienkhochon alleged erroneous conduct and unfair election in Bokajan and Diphu Assembly segments under the seat during the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 18.

“It is learnt from a reliable source and strong evidence that there was erroneous conduct and unfair election under 3 Autonomous District (ST) in Karbi Anglong at Bokajan LAC and Diphu LAC due to threats from an armed organisation, United People’s Revolutionary Front, and illegal campaign conducted by Kuki National Assembly (KNA),” the candidate alleged in the letter to ECI.

Under such circumstances, he alleged that the voters under the two Assembly segments were left with not much choice but to vote for BJP or face dire consequences from and armed organisation.

The candidate further alleged that documents were produced before village chiefs and villagers to vote only for BJP and that the atrocious act of violation would not be tolerated by NPP.

“It is an appeal to the Election Commission that re-poll should be conducted in the two Assembly segments with proper security. Let the villagers cast their votes of choice in a free and fair manner,” he wrote in the letter to the ECI.

Copies of the alleged threat by the armed organisation and the campaign by KNA were enclosed to substantiate the candidate’s claim in the letter to the ECI.
