2 arrested for Guwahati grenade blast, explosives recovered

GUWAHATI: Assam police have arrested one man and a woman –Pranomoy Rajguru and Jahnabi Saikia – in connection with Wednesday night grenade blast in the city that left at least 12 persons injured.

City Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, informed that Pranomoy Rajguru had been working as a sleeper cell of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) in the city and Jahnabi Saikia was assisting him.

Police recovered 40 kgs of explosives, one pistol and 25 live ammunition besides incriminating documents and materials from the rented house of Jahnabi Saikia at Panjabari locality in the city on Thursday.

Police managed to arrest Pranomoy Rajguru after tracking the calls made by Jahnabi Saikia. Both of them hail from Sivasagar town in eastern Assam. Jahnabi Saikia had shifted to the rented house  about 10 days back  and Rajguru used to frequent her place.

The City Police Commissioner informed that Police were on the lookout for more ULFA (I) members in connection with the grenade blast.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister and Home Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal during a meeting with top Assam Police officials and Home Department officials on Thursday directed the state police to prevent  recurrence of such incident and nab all the culprits involved in the grenade explosion.
