CM seeks PM’shelp for Khasi,Garo recognition

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. Accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues AL Hek, Banteidor Lyngdoh and Samlin Malngiang, and also Tura MP Agatha Sangma, the chief minister submitted a memorandum demanding recognition to the state languages. Recently, Agatha had submitted a memorandum from A’Chik Literature Society to Modi for the inclusion of Garo language in the Eighth Schedule.
