GUWAHATI: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has requested the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) to reconsider its decision to shift the coordinator office from Itanagar to Pare Hydro Electric Plant at Doimukh.

In a letter to the chairman cum managing director, NEEPCO on Wednesday, the apex student’s body of Arunachal Pradesh, said, “The coordinator office at Itanagar is bound to play a significant role in the days to come. This sudden decision of shifting the office instead of upgrading it has come as a shocker for us.”

AAPSU further demanded that the coordinator office at Itanagar be upgraded to a regional office headed by an officer not below the rank of executive director.

“A considerable amount of NEEPCO’s power projects and interests are situated in Arunachal Pradesh. This aspect should never be overlooked by the authorities concerned and sentiments and aspirations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh should also be respected at all times,” AAPSU stated in the letter.

The students’ union further stated that the sudden decision of NEEPCO could not be overlooked as the move to shift the coordinator office to Pare H.E Plant, Doimukh, which shall be subsequently closed down in the later stages, is an attempt to divest the state of what is due to it.”

“It is already a known fact that our state is powerhouse with 30 per cent hydro power potential in the entire country. NEEPCO has commissioned power projects in the state like Ranganadi H.E Project (405 MW), Pare H.E Project (110 MW) and very soon the Kameng H.E Project (600 MW) will also be dedicated to the nation. Also, multiple MoUs by NEEPCO have been signed with the state government for new projects,” the letter read.

“Therefore, the NEEPCO authorities should immediately reconsider its decision. This shall in the long run help Arunachal Pradesh and the NEEPCO prosper. AAPSU represents the aspirations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and we do hope that our genuine appeal as well as demand shall be duly considered,” the union stated in the letter.

“We will be compelled to take our own course of action if case of non-fulfillment of the concerns put forth,” it added.
