Unethical behaviour of Hospital

Editor,

This refers to the unethical behaviour of the authorities of Nazareth Hospital, Laitumkhrah. I had gone to the hospital for a few tests after which I was given a prescription to get some medicines. The medicines were not available at the hospital’s pharmacy hence I had to get the required medicines from outside. I was told to get the prescription signed or stamped by the doctor otherwise I would not get the medicines. Now, when I went back to the authorities to get the signature, they refused to sign it. The thing is that they want their patients to buy medicines “only from their pharmacy.” That is why they would not sign the prescription. Such a profit- making motive by a hospital is disgraceful. Hospitals exist to help patients but here, Nazareth is concerned only with minting money. What if the concerned patient is in a life and death situation? Who will take responsibility in such a case?

I request the concerned authorities to take immediate action to restore ‘hospital ethics’. The Supreme Court has itself declared that a patient has the right to acquire medication from any pharmacy and he or she cannot be stopped from doing so by the hospital. This issue demands quick and strong action so that patients do not suffer because of this imposition.

Afghanistan blast

Editor,

One read with shock the report of a massive bomb explosion on Saturday in west Kabul, in which at least 63 people were killed and more than 182 injured. An ISIS suicide bomber made his way into a packed Afghan wedding hall and detonated the bomb on his body ending the joy and celebration of the occasion and giving the shock of a lifetime for all the remaining especially the newly- weds. The question still reverberates in the minds of people, “Why does the ISIS carry out such heinous and most reprehensible act? Why are innocent people targeted?”

The massive blast, which happened late Saturday, came as Washington and the Taliban finalise a deal to reduce US military presence in Afghanistan and hopefully, build a roadmap to a ceasefire.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the two main countries which provide a safe haven to these outfits. The main reasons for people jumping on the band wagon of terrorist organisations are because of poverty and ignorance due to lack of good education. Economic backwardness is also another problem why people often turn to destructive theories of terrorist organisations.

Governments in these countries must implement economic reforms with the help of the United Nations. Also, other countries must help these countries in every possible way to make progress. Afghanistan is made up of rugged mountainous terrain with deep valleys and majestic mountains. First of all, the government must take up measures to turn these places to either tourist destinations by providing basic infrastructural facilities or construct nuclear power plants with the support of foreign countries. The government can sell surplus power to other counties and thus earn foreign exchange.

Further, the government must promote and allow more people to live in villages by providing them all the basic facilities and also begin more industries in rural areas so that people are duty-bound to earn an honest living. This will enable them to weave their own dreams without allowing themselves to fall into the trap of destructive theories. If the government starts something constructive in a determined way, the country can be converted into a paradise on earth where peace and prosperity will rule.

Ravi Shastri is back

Editor,

The recent announcement made by BCCI CAC to retain Ravi Shastri as the head coach is overwhelming for Team India. The team is now at a crucial stage post world cup loss and needs Ravi Shastri’s leadership to evolve stronger in the upcoming games until November 2021.

The incumbent’s selection was much expected as there were very few contenders for the top post of Head Coach. Ravi Shastri over the years has now developed a deep understanding with the team and knows the nuances of cricket and the team through SWOT analysis. He is now best suited to lift the morale of the men in blue to the next level and help ensure that the team benefits from his leadership positively.

As it is learnt that Shastri had demonstrated a clear road map for the future to team India during the interview process with BCCI/CAC, his elevation as the Head Coach for the third time will help India retain top notch talent and win games successfully. The Indian team should now make the best opportunity of Shastri’s availability through his renewal for yet another term and look ahead to retain titles especially on foreign soil.

Kashmir imbroglio

 Editor,

There is a lesson here to be learnt from this event. The tyranny of religion, language and ethnicity/racial identity would end harmony among communities and usher in political instability in any State in the World Order. It is, therefore, prudent for each one of us to ponder deeply upon the rising intolerance bred by the fanatics of religion, language and culture countrywide.
