BSF seize cattle in WJH
SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai has informed that the BSF personnel of Hawaitilla BOP have seized 25 (on October 3) and 8 (on October 4) number of cattle intended for smuggling purposes while conducting patrolling along the international border falling under Muktapur PP jurisdiction. The SP requests the owners of the cattle or concerned individuals with knowledge about any recent cattle theft to approach Muktapur PP or Dawki PS at the earliest for further procedures.

Repair of roads sought
TURA: The FKJGP, Dadenggre Circle in West Garo Hills has urged concerned authorities to immediately repair several connecting roads of the region. In a statement issued here on Thursday, the federation informed that the repair works on the Dadenggre to Phulbari via Romgre village and Tura to Phulbari via Rongchugre village roads has been pending for a long time and urged the authorities concerned to repair them at the earliest. “These roads are the lifeline of the region. We urged the concerned authorities as well as the MLA of the area to look into the matter,” the federation said.

Workshop on child related issues
NONGSTOIN: A one-day workshop on ‘Child Related Issues’ was organised by the office of the District Child Protection Officer, District Child Protection Unit, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin at Bishop Hall, Nongstoin on Thursday. School teachers falling under Nongstoin Block and personnel of Special Juvenile Police Unit, Nongstoin attended the workshop. Chief Guest M. Kharkongor, chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meghalaya, Shillong spoke on POCSO Act, 2012 & J.J Act, 2015 whereas S. Massar, director of Faith Foundation, Shillong and P. Marsharing, Programme Officer, Faith Foundation, Shillong highlighted various child related issues.

Electors verification extended
NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Commissioner (Election), West Khasi Hills informed that the last date for Elector Verification Programme (EVP) falling under 32-Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST), 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly Constituencies has been extended to November 18. The verification programme aims at bringing a clean and healthy electoral roll by verifying the electors detail, authentication of entry of citizen etc by using all facilities such as ‘Voter helpline mobile’ app, NVSP portal, Voter helpline no. 1950 and by utilising the service provider of designated Common Service Center (CSC). The electors may also visit the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election), West Khasi Hills or contact their Booth Level Officers at designated polling station by producing documents such as ration card, passport (ID), bank passbook, Aadhar card, office ID, driving license, PAN card, electricity bill, admit card /marksheet etc.

NONGSTOIN: The District Co-ordination Committee (DCC), West Khasi Hills District held a meeting at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nongstoin on Thursday. The DC T Lyngwa reviewed the action taken and the status of various matters discussed in the last DCC meeting which included construction and repair of road, maintenance of tourist spot and construction of guest houses, public toilets, school toilets, water supply, electricity, et al. Lyngwa called upon co-ordination amongst the departments to ease the hardships faced by the government offices. The meeting concluded with an invitation from the SDO (Civil), Mairang, A Nongbri to participate in the Ri-Kham Autumn Festival, 2019 which will be held on November 1 and 2.
