Husband chews off wife’s nose after feud
Lakhimpur (UP): In a bizarre incident, a man in Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh chewed off wife’s nose after she threatened to leave home. The incident was reported from Mudiya village in Neemgaon area on Sunday where victim Sarojini Devi (34) was allegedly attacked by her husband Moolchand. The woman was living separately from her husband for nearly six months due to some dispute and had returned home on Wednesday on the advice of the village head. On Sunday, the couple had a major quarrel and the husband chewed off the wife’s nose and fled. Apparently, when Sarojini informed her husband that she was returning to her parents’ home, Moolchand took it as an insult. He thrashed Sarojini and later chewed off her nose. Police have registered a FIR in the matter at the Neemgaon police station. Rajkumar, the Station House officer (SHO) of Neemgaon police station, said, “We have booked the accused under IPC section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and he will be arrested soon.” The victim has been admitted to the hospital and her condition is stable. Health Minister answers helpline caller
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja, here on Monday, responded to the 100,000th call that came to the Disha-helpline number 1056. The helpline, launched on January 22, has received huge number of calls from people seeking help and guidance on Covid-19. When the phone rang on Monday, it was picked by Shailaja. On the other end was a lady Sreelekshmi from Chennai and all her doubts was cleared. Just before the end of call, Shailaja told Sreelekshmi who she was and a startled caller couldn’t hide her excitement. Soon there was applause from all who was hearing Shailaja answer the caller. Sreelekshmi praised the Minister for her work. Shailaja said everything had happened like this because of the good team work and the phone was disconnected. The 24×7 helpline is functioning from the state capital. (IANS)
Man turned away from hospitals
New Delhi: Even as the Union Health Ministry has clearly given directions to the states to ensure that medical care is not denied to non-Covid patients during the coronavirus pandemic but incidents of patients being turned away from the hospitals are coming to the light off and on. The recent case is of 54-year-old Sultan, a resident of northeast Delhi who has been struggling to get admission in the hospitals during this pandemic and lockdown but has been facing rebuffs from everywhere. According to his nephew Sajid, Sultan’s condition is deteriorating in the absence of medical care. “My uncle needs immediate hip replacement but no hospital is ready to admit him due to the ongoing pandemic situation,” Sajid told IANS. He also said that Sultan has been struggling to get medical attention since the initial days of the pandemic and now the condition of his hip needs urgent medical care, failing to which he may even lose his life.
