TURA: Despite a dismal performance in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations, the results of which were declared on Thursday, Garo Hills had something to cheer about with a lone candidate from the region managing to find a place in the toppers’ list.

Kumar Ayan Sharma of Don Bosco College, Tura was the lone topper from Garo Hills who managed to bag the 3rd position by securing 439 marks in the Commerce stream.

Son of Businessman, Animesh Sharma and housewife Anita Sharma, Kumar now plans to pursue a degree on Business Administration from the Pandit Deen Dayal Petroleum University (PDDPU) in Ahmedabad.

Revealing the reason for his success, Kumar said that he studied for two hours each day and also took regular tutions on Accountancy. Kumar also attributes his success to the frequent motivations of his grandfather and senior most Advocate from Tura, Jugal Kishore Sharma, who he says is his inspiration and role model.

“I owe all my success to my grandfather who has been very close to me. He has motivated me so much since my childhood. I would not have been able to achieve this success had it not been for him and I am so grateful to him,” Kumar said.

When not engrossed in his studies, Kumar says he loves to spend his leisure time playing cricket and is also an avid fan of Team India Captain, Virat Kohli and England all rounder, Ben Stokes. His other hobbies are listening to music (both Hindi and English).

In his message to other students of his age, Kumar urged them not be stressed and overburdened.

“The secret is to take it step by step from the beginning. The workload should be broken up so that you are never over burdened. Study a portion of the syllabus everyday from the beginning so that you are left with an equal portion for later,” Kumar advised.
