Legal body holds 3-day training prog for headmen

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, organised a three-day Legal Literacy Training programme for the Headmen of Bhoirymbong C&RD Block, Ri-Bhoi District on Thursday, Friday and Monday.
In a statement issued here, Member Secretary of MSLSA, Shillong, NA Khan, said that the programme was attended by the headmen of the villages falling under Bhoirymbong C& RD Block.
The training programme, which was conducted under strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, witnessed a participation of 66 headmen from the Bhoirymbong C&RD Block.
The training programme was scheduled in four batches with around 16-20 headmen in each batch.
Block Development Officer (BDO) of Bhoirymbong C&RD Block, R Kharbihkhiew, who was the resource person during the programme, in his address stressed on the need for sensitisation and imparting legal literacy knowledge to the local heads at the village-level.
Citing the current scenario due to COVID-19, Medical & Health Officer, Bhoirymbong CHC, Dr. D Rymbui, highlighted the dos and don’ts.
Request was made to the headmen to take serious steps towards preventing the spread of the virus by adhering to the protocol issued by the Health department and to educate villagers about the pandemic.
It was insisted that the headmen should not be ignorant of law, rights and duty of the citizens.
During the three-day programme, the headmen interacted with the resource persons on FIR, RTI, Panel Lawyer and Role of Legal Services Institution.
Officer-in-Charge of Khapmara Police Station, Amit Sinha, while addressing the participants, urged the local head to abide by the rules of law during the lockdown.
