Central team inspects water conservation scheme in Tripura

Udaipur: A central team led by Dr. Jayanta Chaudhury, Associate Professor of NIRDPR-NERC has visited Tripura and is verifying case studies submitted to MoRD on successful initiatives for water conservation under MGNREGA.
It has become an important subject to save water in Tripura as in the state 11 rivers have been declared as most polluted river in India. It has been reported that Tripura has been receiving annual rainfall of around 2,200 mm but the rain distribution is spread throughout the year and it is uncommon in many region of the country.
Dr. Chaudhury said, “A total of 122 families are getting the benefit in Tripura and it has been possible due to the successful initiatives for water conservation under MGNREGA in the state.”
The central team visited Salema R.D Block of Dhalai District and inspected the case study on importance of earth check dams in order to conserve water. The team has proposed to visit Amarpur R.D Block under Gomati District and West Tripura District, said Rajib Malakar, Assistant Professor of Rural Development Department at SIPARD. (UNI)
