Police confirm no FIR filed on incident

TURA: Even as allegations of assaulting a minor boy in drunken state arose against GHADC MDC, Sofior Rahman on Sunday morning, the MDC has refuted the same saying it was false.

In a statement issued here, one, Islam Hoque Choudhury had claimed that the incident of assault took place at 4:30 pm on Saturday on the Garodubi PWD road when one, Zahangir Islam, son of Anowar Islam from Garodubi village was beaten up by Rahman. The complaint further claimed that after beating up the minor boy himself, Rahman ordered his security to beat him.

Choudhury had claimed in his complaint that the victim was sent for a medical by the officer in charge of Rajabala Police Station following which a case was also filed against Rahman. In the complaint, Choudhury also questioned how Rahman could be provided with security when he has been known to have many bad records as well as a criminal case pending against him. The complaint also condemned the behaviour of Rahman and urged the Tura SP to take action against him for his unlawful behaviour.

Meanwhile, reacting strongly to the allegation Sofior Rahman denied any such incident taking place and himself suggested that actual facts be verified from the police. The MDC also questioned the character of Choudhury adding everybody in the area knows what kind of person he is.

Police have also refuted the claim by Choudhury with the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr M G R Kumar informing that no FIR against Rahman has been received so far.
