District Council Polls

All but two of the non-Congress(I) Ministers in the MDF Ministry are joining the fray in the Khasi Hills District Council elections billed for March 15.

Barring Mr Oris Lyngdoh and Mr Rowell Lyngdoh, the remaining six Ministers from Khasi Hills are defending their seats. They are: Mr Grosswell Mylliemnagap, Mr D R Nongkynrih, Mr M. Kharchandy, Mr Kitdor Syiem, Mr M. Warbah and Dr F. A. Khonglam.

Justifying the decision of the Ministers to contest the election, Mr Mylliemngap said “since our political detractors have been criticizing our decision to join the MDF Govt. it is an opportunity for us to vindicate our stand. We are more than confident that the people are with us.”

According to official sources, 234 nominations were received for the 18 seats in East Khasi Hills district. Of these two were found invalid. There was information from West Khasi Hills district at the time of going to press.
