CPC condemns police action

SHILLONG: The Central Puja Committee (CPC), Meghalaya has condemned police action on innocent and peaceful followers of Baba Ramdev, who was on a fast-unto-death in protest against corruption and black money at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi.

The resolution to this effect was taken at a meeting held under the presidenship of Naba Bhattacharjee, Working President, CPC, on Sunday.

Informing this, JL Das, general secretary, CPC, said the Committee, which has always spoken out on such atrocities in the past whether on muslims, christians or any other religion, expressed deep shock over the incident which has few parallels in independent India when helpless women, children and elders, most of whom were sleeping, were attacked by guardians of law.

“This is an attack on democratic rights and freedom of expression of the people in a peaceful manner, reminiscent of the dark days of emergency. The resolution appealed to all concerned to ensure that peace is maintained at all cost and such incidents do not occur in future and the culprits of the heinous crime be given exemplary punishment,” said a CPC release.
