Nazrul Jayanti
An evening to commemorate the 112th birth anniversary of eminent revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was organized recently on the premises of Bangiya Sahitya Parishad. Recitation of the creations of the eminent poet was presented alongside Nazrul Geeti , Bhatiali Geet, Ghazal, Patriotic songs etc.
Environment Day
Deepjyoti Socio Environmental Society of Bishnupur conducted a plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day on Sunday. Members of the Society planted saplings in Assam Club, Shillong Vidyalaya and Laban Assamese LP School premises. As part of the programme, the Society also distributed leaflets on environment through different newspapers in the city. The Society in a press note thanked the State Forest Department for providing the saplings. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Barapani under NICRA project organised World Environment Day on Sunday in Kyrdem village.
Felicitation
The All Meghalaya Assamese Association will felicitate students belonging to Assamese community in Meghalaya who passed out the SSLC/ HSSLC examination in 2011 with 80 per cent and above marks. The Association in a press note has invited applications from students along with a Xerox copy of marksheet. The same may be submitted on or before June 15 to NM Goswami, Laban Assamese Girls Sec School or HN Das, Assam Kristi Kendra, Dhankheti, Shillong.
