JOWAI: A year after demolition of a foundation stone laid for a bridge over Wyrjiang river in the disputed Block I area, the Assam PWD has started the construction work once again. Assam PWD personnel came to the site on Tuesday with JCBs, grinding machine, rods, cement and other materials to construct the bridge across the river, sources said on Thursday. “They have also constructed a temporary labourers’ camp on the river side,” sources added. Suspected villagers, who believe that the area falls under Meghalaya, had destroyed foundation stone laid on February 23 last year. The bridge construction work is a clear case of encroachment since Wyrjiang river is under Meghalaya, sources claimed.
