SHILLONG: MPCC president Friday Lyngdoh has strongly criticised the media for highlighting only negative aspects about the Government.

“It is impossible to see the reports in the press which highlight the achievements of the Government. The Government has to give its publicity highlighting its achievement on its own,” Lyngdoh said while speaking during the inaugural function of the two-day National Conference on “Role of Media in Democracy” organised by Synod College here on Thursday.

He said the media seems happy to embarrass the Government or any political party that is leading the Government.

“Some of them don’t mind publishing unauthenticated news item as unsigned statements from anti-Government forces in an attempt to embarrass the Government,” MPCC president said.

While the issue of corruption is hitting news headline in other parts of the country, Lyngdoh said the pressmen here seems to be hell bent on putting the government in the docks, Lyngdoh railed.

The MPCC president said, “We all know the present Government is trying its best to seal the loopholes and to strengthen laws to curb corruption”.

He said the Press as usual seems to have taken an anti-establishment attitude while adding that the Press seems to put all its weight behind the so-called new crusaders against corruption and turns a blind eye to the corruption perpetrated by such crusaders.
