Environment Day

The NSS Unit of Laban Bengalee Boy’s HS School in collaboration with Department of Social Forestry observed World Environment Day with tree plantation and “Save River Umshyrpi” awareness campaign on June 9 on the school premises and its neighbouring areas.

Felicitation

St Mary’s College is hosting a felicitation function for students who have passed the HSSLC examination at 2 pm on Friday in the college auditorium.

NEC meeting

The North Eastern Council is holding its 60th council meeting at Committee Room C, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi on June 16 and 17.

Coaching

The coaching classes conducted by St Edmund’s College proved successful as 52 students have passed the AIEEE out of which 22 belonged to the general category and 30 belonged to the SC/ ST/ OBC categories. There were 5 candidates from Meghalaya and Nagaland who were placed in the general category.

Screening camp

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is launching the National programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness by holding a free screening camp on deafness at Sohra CHC on Friday.

Exhibition

The Director of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya has informed that a two-day painting exhibition will be organised on Monday and Tuesday at District Library Building, Tura. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 11:30 am on Monday.

Training

The National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya in collaboration with the Public Works Department is hosting three-day training cum workshop on Government e-procurement at NIC, Shillong which will end on Friday.

Meeting

The Meghalaya Softball Association will hold the general meeting on June 11 at 3pm at the premises of the Marbalyn Enterprise, opposite PCI Building, lower Lachumiere for the election of new office bearers and also other related work of the Association.

Jubilee function

The Madan Sports and Cultural Club will celebrate fifty years of existence with the inaugural function on Saturday on the Club premises at 3.30 pm. The Club will felicitate 23 founder members on the occasion.

Clarification

With regards to the news item “HIV+ cases on the upswing in state” (ST June 9, 2011) the Meghalaya Aids Control Society has clarified that according to the Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART), the number of HIV+ in the state till 2010 was 418 and not 151 as reported.
