Biography of Thomas Jones released

Shillong: ‘U Thomas Jones bad ka Pyrthei Saitsohpen,’ a book written by Prof SS Majaw of Synod College based on Thomas Jones, the pioneer of the Khasi alphabet was released by Rev (Dr) JF Jyrwa on Monday at Mawkhar Dorbar hall with the Khasi Author’s Society in attendance.

The book is a biography on the pioneer and gives a great deal of insight into his life. “We need to go deep into the life of this great personality and find out all the things that he has done while in Meghalaya”, said Rev Jyrwa.

On January 23 and 24, 2011, the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly (KJPA) organised special services in honour of the 200th birth anniversary of the Father of Khasi Alphabet in Sohra.

The author of the book compared the information gathered about pioneer to the tip of an iceberg wherein only half of what appeared on the surface of the ocean is known whereas the other three half left underneath the ocean is still a mystery. Copies of the book were given to the Khasi Department of NEHU and Synod College and other individuals.
