SHILLONG: MPCC president Friday Lyngdoh has claimed that former Chief Minister DD Lapang is happy with his present position in the Congress-led MUA Government.
“I do not think he (Lapang) has any interest in occupying the Chief Minister’s post once again. As far as I know, the former Chief Minister is very happy with his present position,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Monday.
The MPCC president’s assertion came when dissident Congress MLAs are projecting Lapang as their leader, which means he (Lapang) would ultimately take over as the Chief Minister in case there is a change in the leadership.
It would be interesting to see whether Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government, agrees to this claim of the MPCC president.
Lyngdoh termed Lapang as one of his close associates, but was quick to add that he is close to every other members of the party as well.
On the much-awaited Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, the MPCC president said the CLP is not a forum to discuss the differences of the party MLAs.
“The CLP is normally convened to discuss the current issues,” he said, adding, holding of the CLP is the prerogative of the Chief Minister.
Earlier, AICC general secretary in-charge of the State, Dhaniram Shandil, had said the CLP is a forum to discuss various developmental issues.
Maintaining that no one can pressure the Chief Minister to hold the CLP, the MPCC president said, “He (Chief Minister) is going to hold the CLP as and when necessary,” MPCC president said, adding, “The CLP is likely to take place sometime next week.”
