Agartala: The Left Front in Tripura has called for a dawn to dusk general strike on June 27 in protest against the hike in fuel prices.

Condemning the recent move of the union government in raising the fuel prices CPM spokes person Goutam Das on Sunday said that increase in the prices of LPG, diesel and kerosene would add to the woe of the common people.

“This is collective attack on the common people of the country. We strongly protest against this decision. We demand immediate roll back,” said Das.

He further mentioned that petroleum price hike would raise the price of essential commodities nad vehicle fare is also bound to raise. Piling heat at the UPA government Das said that the motto of UPA to save the interest of Aam Admi has remained a concept while repetitive petro-price hike is compounding the burden of the mass.

“The latest increase has come down as a big blow to every family. The policy makers at the centre are looking after the interest of only a particular section of the society,” added the spokes person.

Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy on June 25 announced that the price of diesel will be increased by Rs 3 per litre, kerosene by Rs 2 per litre and domestic LPG by Rs 50 per cylinder, excluding state levies such as VAT.

The hike came a day after the government announced that food inflation had soared to nearly a 10-week high of 9.13 percent for the week ended June 11.

Hospitals, doctor’s chambers, medicine shops, fruit stalls, telecommunication, milk and water supply would be out of bandh purview.
