SHILLONG: Sudesh Kumar (IPS) took charge as the new BSF Inspector General (Assam and Meghalaya frontier) here on Saturday.
On taking charge, Kumar emphasized on the need for effective border management in order to prevent trans-border crime, maintaining cordial relation with the border population, respecting human rights and welfare of troops.
Kumar is a Kerala Cadre IPS officer of the 1987 batch. Earlier, he has held important positions as SP, DIG and IG of Police in Kerala. He has been awarded the President’s Police Medal in 2003.
Workshop on career counseling

SHILLONG: A one-day career guidance and counselling workshop on the theme “Right decision at the right time for a bright future” was held at Mawryngkneng Higher Secondary School on Saturday.
The workshop organized by the Block Development Office, Mawryngkneng in collaboration with the ICFAI University, Shillong and the KSU, Mawryngkneng Circle was attended by 148 students from five schools.
BDO of Mawryngkneng, MS Sangma emphasized the need for such workshops to help and guide the students of the rural areas so that they could also avail such benefits.
Pensioners’ meet
SHILLONG: The annual general body meeting of the Central Govt. (Civil) Pensioners’ Association was held recently where AB Paul was elected the new president of the Association, TK Bhattacharjee as vice-president, GC Bhattacharjee as secretary, SK Biswas as treasurer, according to a release issued here.
