SHILLONG: The Shillong Referee’s Association (SRB) has strongly condemned the Shillong Sports Association (SSA) especially its general secretary Bor Diengdoh for trying to create a division among its members.
“We strongly condemn the SSA for trying to bribe our members by offering money to them. This is a desperate attempt of the SSA to create a division among our members,” SRB general secretary Andrew Umdor told reporters after a meeting here on Monday.
“The cheap tactics of the SSA came to light after some of our members confessed the same during the meeting,’” Umdor added.
According to him, the SSA had offered the referees a bigger amount compared to what they are presently getting to officiate in their ongoing league matches.
“We are not going to fall into the trap of the SSA. We would remain united,” Umdor said.
Meanwhile, in the meeting, the SRB has decided to demand the payment of Rs 150 for officiating in the first, second, third and under-19 premier league and Rs 250 for officiating in the premier league matches.
“We have decided not to officiate on any of the league matches conducted by the SSA until our demands are met,” SRB general sectary said while apologizing to the various local clubs for the inconvenience caused by their decision.
Umdor termed the present general secretary of the SSA as a dictator who does not know how to behave with people.
“He (Diengdoh) is acting like a dictator,” Umdor said, adding, “If the situation demands we would continue to abstain from conducting the matches until the new SSA general secretary is elected.”
It may be mentioned that the SRB has abstained from officiating the SSA league matches since Saturday.
