SHILLONG: Death of the young British tourist, Christina Read, has been confirmed as divers located her body stuck between two rocks under Wah Umkynsan river at Nohriat, Sohra, but it is yet to be recovered. A group of 50 divers of the Meghalaya Fire Service besides local divers took two days to trace the tourist, who was swept away by the strong current of the river where she attempted swimming on Saturday. The divers located the body on Monday but they could not take it out because of the strong current of the river. A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Guwahati will arrive here on Tuesday to flush out the body. The father of the 25-year-old woman would also arrive on Tuesday to receive the body.

Christina along with her husband Anthony Lewis and another person were trekking in the hills of Sohra when they came across the river.

As her husband started swimming, Christina too made an attempt, which proved fatal as she was deceived by the strong current of the river.

She was not an expert swimmer, an official involved in the rescue operation said.
