SHILLONG: On Monday a lady bought a packet of Amul Taaza milk from Kimi Store a grocery shop on the way to IIM Shillong, at Nongthymmai at Rs 45 a packet when the marked price is only Rs 43. When she confronted the shopkeeper, he said that he is forced to charge Rs 2 extra for his profit. The lady argued hard and long with the shopkeeper and even threatened to sue him at the Consumer Forum but he remained adamant. Finally, she asked him for a cash memo for the milk packet.

The shopkeeper at first refused to give it to her. He asked her to return the milk packet instead but she did not budge. Finally he gave her a receipt (katcha) on a piece of paper and stated the amount of Rs 45 that she paid for the milk.

Later the lady called up The Shillong Times to report this incident although her family members advised her to just pay the amount demanded by the shopkeeper and be done with. The lady said she was tired of being exploited by shop-owners, taxi drivers et al in her day to day life and decided to fight back.
