SHILLONG: The Bangladesh Government recently issued an order permitting import of coal from Meghalaya through Dawki Land Custom Station (LCS) till June 30 next year.

Normally, export of coal to Bangladesh would stop for two to three months after June 30 every year.

“This is for the first time that the Bangladesh Government has passed on order to continuously allow export of coal for the whole year,” Meghalaya International Exporters Chamber of Commerce (MIECC) secretary Dolly Khonglah informed on Wednesday.

Khonglah had received a letter from Sylhet Importer Group general secretary Chandan Saha informing about this decision of the Bangladesh Government.

During peak season, Meghalaya exports around 4500 tonnes of coal to Bangladesh on a single day through the LCS in Dawki alone, Khonglah said.
