Editor,

Does the Meghalaya Forest Department really need to wait for satellite imagery analysis to know what is common knowledge – unchecked destruction of trees all over the state at a rate beyond belief ? It would not be wrong to say that the forest officials actively collude in murdering the environment by turning a blind eye (or in most cases through active participation) to the destruction taking place all around us. What are the NGOs and the student unions doing to stop this from happening? Isn’t this a worthy enough cause for them to take up? Unless something is done soon, we will be living in a barren land 10 years from now or even sooner. We need greater transparency from the Government with regard to the steps being taken to check this menace.

Your etc.,

Bobby Ray
