AGARTALA: Former BJP MP Kabindra Purkayasta have made an empathic call to the MPs of Tripura to join forces for a combined efforts for early completion of the Broad Gauge (BG) conversion work from Lumding to Agartala via Badarpur.

Purkayasta, who arrived here to take part in the Chetana Yatra organized by the party’s state unit on Thursday, told reporters that the three MPs from the state should raise voice to execute the dream rail project on schedule time.

“We should keep aside political differences and make sure that we mount pressure on the Railway Ministry for the completion of the work now on in between Lumding – Badarpur section. There are allegations that the powerful transport lobby is hell-bent in making sure that the work of gauge conversion is not completed on schedule,” Purkayasta added.

As part the plan, the BG conversion work would be completed by December 2013 next. Though there were some problems to speed up the BG conversion, the project is expected to get completed on schedule.

Purkayasta also blasted the CPM-led Left Front government for corruption, malpractice and discrepancies committed in terms of distribution of land under the Forest Rights Act.

“The government is walling in the mire of corruption”, he said
