SHILLONG: The residents of the Cantonment Area along with the entire Shillong city have been facing acute shortage of water for the last two days.

The residents of the Cantonment Area are the worst sufferers. There was a major land slide in the source of water near Mahadev Khola.

A resident of the area while commenting on the shortage of water supply said, “If the situation remains the same then we will be forced to buy water at a very high cost.”

The Shillong Cantonment Board CEO JV Singh on Friday said the water supply has remained suspended due to the landslide.

According to Singh, the repair work could not take place on Thursday due to heavy rain. The problem would be rectified soon, he added.

It may be mentioned that the water supply will rain affected in several other parts of the city till July 3 due to urgent repair work of 300 mmdia CI gravity main pipe line at Wahrisa which was damaged by flash floods.
