NONGSTOIN: Nongpyndeng village, which recently was tagged as the ‘model village’ of Nongstoin, is now in the news for the wrong reason — bad road condition.

The roads in Nongpyndeng have remained unattended for more than four years even after several schemes were sanctioned.

It may be mention that Nongpyndeng is one of the centre for education in West Khasi Hills as a number of schools and colleges are located in the area including the Nongstoin College, Sibsing Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, Jawaharlal Novodaya Vidyalaya ( JNV) and the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET). According to sources, a notification was issued to repair the road in 2007, but till date nothing has been done.

The village secretary of Nongpyndeng TW Syiem has urged the PWD to take initiatives on the matter.
