SHILLONG: The NEIGRIHMS MBBS students have finally suspended their week-long strike to protest shortage of teaching faculty in the Institute, after meeting Governor RS Mooshahary on Monday. “We have decided to suspend the agitation after Governor assured that he would take up the matter with the NEIGRIHMS administration and the Union Health Ministry as well,” the MBBS students said in a statement.

The MBBS students said the Governor had shown keen interest in the matter and promised that he would intervene, but he also asked for suspension of the strike that started on June 27.

Meanwhile, the students met NEIGRIHMS Director, Dr ME Yeolekar, who confirmed that necessary steps have already been initiated to fill up the vacuum in the teaching faculty.

The director had said results of first and second phase interviews for faculty members would be announced in the last week of July.
