Shillong: The preliminary work on the much-talked-about artificial turf at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ia slated to start this month, informed Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, BM Lanong on Tuesday.

“The turf is aimed to be completed before the onset of the I-League”, stated Lanong, without giving any specific date as to when the work would start.

However, when asked about the possibility of flood in the area, Lanong said with the monsoon at its peak, it will definitely cause delay and difficulty in carrying out the normal work.

“But work will be carried out to ensure that it finishes before the I-League”, added Lanong.

Lanong asserted that the turf is expected to last for 14 to 15 years but according to experts, the turf’s life-span is 12-15 years.

“The permanence of turf will depend on how much we maintain it”, he added.
