TURA: The Mendsipather regional unit of the Garo Students’ Union has lodged a complaint with the Executive Engineer of PWD (R) Resu-Division over non-completion of an approach road in Gajingpara Songma of Resubelpara town.
The students’ body pointed out that tender had been called and the work allotted but surprisingly the repair work was left incomplete causing immense difficulties to the pedestrians during the monsoon showers with puddles of water in the damaged portions coupled with slush and mud.
The GSU has warned of strong protest if the road repair works are not completed within this month.
Youth Congress strengthened : The District Youth Congress Committee has been reconstituted in West Garo Hills with the appointment of new office bearers of the party to strengthen it further at the grassroot level.
The party has appointed Septerwin R Sangma as the new President of the youth congress along with Lowingstone A Sangma and Damien D Sangma as vice presidents and Pangsang Rudy N Sangma as its general secretary.
Seven secretaries of the youth congress have been appointed by the party namely Bipul Kumar Das, Allan Sylvester Marak, Edwardjim R Marak, Susanto Biswas, Arsin M Marak, Torik B Sangma and Sirazul Haque.The chief organizing secretary is Bappun A Sangma, organizing secretary Richard M Marak, public relations secretary Sam Wanjang Ch Marak, treasurer Tangseng G Momin and thirteen others as executive members.
Vanamahotsava observed : The Forests and Environment Department, Social Forestry Division, West Garo Hills, in collaboration with ADRA, Nokma Council, IPTAC and NSS units from Tura Government College and Durama College, Tura, recently, organised a tree planting programme observing Vanamahotsava at Durama College, Tura.
Addresing the gathing Agatha K Sangma, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, said with the imminent threat of the catastrophic affects of global warming it was imperative to strive towards conservation of environment.
