NEW DELHI: The Union Minister for DoNER, Bijoy Krishna Handique has urged the Centre to intervene in the affairs of NEIGRIHMS and fill up the vacant posts at the earliest.
“During my visit to Shillong last week, I found that the environment in NEIGRIHMS is vitiated due to inadequate faculty and the resultant agitation by students,” Handique stated in his letter to Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, on Wednesday. Earlier, Vincent Pala, the Minister of State for Water Resources had made similar demand with the Centre.
The 103 faculty positions lying vacant in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), should fill up immediately, he said. He mentioned that out of 137 posts, only 34 have reportedly been filled up, which has resulted in dislocation of academic and health care activities in the Institute.
The Union Minister said this matter had led to agitations by students demanding posting of adequate number of faculty members.
