Union Minister of State for Water Resources and Minority Affairs, Vincent H Pala has greeted the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Behdeinkhlam, which will culminate on Friday at a sacred pool — Aitnar, in Jowai. He also informed that he would not be able to attend the function.
Population Day
As part of the observation of World Population Day 2011 on the theme “Small Family: Overall Development”, the office of the Additional District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District will organise a programme at Pynursla CHC on July 11 at 11am. The local MLA, P Tynsong will attend the programme as the chief guest.
Postponed
The Audiophile Productions has postponed the release of a Khasi album Tienphira which was scheduled to be released on Friday at Shillong Club following the death of Magrina Pariat’s grandmother, Mei Jri Pariat (96 years), a resident of Wahthapbroo, on Thursday morning. The new date will be announced soon.
Workshop
The State Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries will organise a three-day workshop on “Building of Employee and Pension Database” from July 11 at U Soso Tham auditorium. The State Chief Secretary WMS Pariat will inaugurate the workshop on July 11 at 10am.
Prize ceremony
The prize distribution ceremony of the 4th Inter-Shillong cultural meet, organized Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, will held on July 24 at U Soso Tham auditorium at 2pm.
Swearing -in

The Shillong Press Club has condoled the sudden demise of senior journalist EM Jose’s father EA Matthai on Thursday evening. “While extending our deepest condolences, we beseech the Almighty for solace upon you and your bereaved family members at this very dark moment,” SPC president David Laitphlang said in a statement.
