London: Guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher has broken his silence over the bitter confrontation with brother Liam that prompted his exit from Oasis.

Noel, who is set to launch a solo career with new band High Flying Birds, blamed Liam for the WWF world wrestling-style fight that ended their volatile relationship. The duo gave hits like Wonderwall, ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’.

Noel said that the August 28, 2009 fight which ended just minutes before the band were due to take the stage at Paris’ Rock en Seine festival, was started by Liam, who wanted to promote his clothing line during the Oasis tour.

The band had to cancel the rest of the dates and the brothers haven’t spoken since then.

“Our relationship was never as bad as people made out, but it all started to unravel when Liam launched his own designer clothes label and he decided that the Oasis tour program was where he could advertise it. “I didn’t think it was right for him to be flogging his gear to our fans. There was a massive fight about that,” Noel said.

The 44-year-old said that Liam stormed his dressing room and tried to hit him with his guitar. “Part of me wishes it had ended like that because it would have made a great headline. He was swinging it around and nearly took my face off. That’s when I said ‘I’m out of here.’ I sat in the car and said ‘I can’t do this anymore’,” Noel added. (PTI)
