Kirti Azad arrested, gets bail

Darbhanga : BJP MP Kirti Jha Azad was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the ransacking and torching of the office of Bihar State Electricity Board general manager in 2001 and was later released on bail. The former cricketer was arrested while he was on his way to the court here to surrender following a non bailable warrant issued against him in the case on June 24, police said. Azad allegedly led the mob to protest acute shortage of electricity in his Darbhanga Lok Sabha constituency in 2001. Azad was produced before First Class Magistrate Vijay Kumar Pandey who allowed him bail with a bail bond of Rs 5,000 with two sureties of like amount. Pandey also asked Azad to ensure his appearance in the court and cooperate in the trial. (PTI)
