Panel to probe KMSS protest

GUWAHATI:Assam government on Thursday constituted a one-man panel headed by Justice (Retired) S K Kar to inquire into the circumstances leading to violent protest by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) which led to the killing of three persons and injuries to several others on June 22 here.

The commission would also examine whether the police action including firing that took place was justified and whether any person or organisation are responsible for the violence and arson and damage to public property at Lastgate area of Dispur here, an official release said.

The panel would also determine whether there were any lapses on the part of any authority and to suggest measures so that such incidents do not recur in future.

The report would be submitted within three days from Thursday. (PTI)
