SSA yet to cover 1.25 lakh children

GUWAHATI:Inspite of best efforts of the government, close to 1.25 lakh out-of-school children are yet to be covered under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Assam.Informing this in response to a question in the state Assembly on Thursday, state Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma informed that total of 1,245,77 out-of-school children are yet to be covered by SSA.Out of these, highest number of 14,892 children are in Sonitpur district, followed by Dhubri district with 14,272 children and Nagaon with 13,264 children.Jorhat district has the least number of out-of-school children not covered by SSA at 732.Dr Sharma further informed that 35,671,366 free textbooks have been printed and distributed among 64,624,47 students for the academic session 2011.”Free textbooks have been printed in 17 mediums and languages.(UNI)
