ITANAGAR: Landslides triggered by torrential rain during the past couple of days have thrown life out of gear in many parts of Arunachal Pradesh disrupting surface communication and water supply.

The Bameng-Chayang Tajo road in East Kameng district has been snapped by flash-floods cutting off both the circles from the rest of the district.

Due to landslides, blockages have been reported at Mebua, some 8 kms off Seppa, the district headquarters.

Official sources said on Saturday that many small streams in the area have swelled and are dangerously flowing above danger levels and have swept away many culverts along the Bameng -Chayang Tajo road.

Many vehicles from Bameng to Seppa were left stranded at Pachi following the situation.

Movement of vehicles on the Seppa- Bameng-Chayang Tajo circuit had to be suspended temporarily, the sources said.

Meanwhile, heavy rains have caused havoc in Seppa depositing boulders and loose sediments at various places in the township.

The main thoroughfare Bazaarline and ALC line have been hit hard by the ravaging flood.

Landslides also disrupted water supply in the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun.

The 300 mm diameter ductile iron pipe carrying water from Nyroch river, one of the major sources that caters about 8,000 people of Naharlagun and Nirjuli, was washed away at Tarajuli last evening.

Flashflood cut off Seijosa in East Kameng district from rest of the state forcing people to abandon their homes and damaged colonies, mainly the medical, teacher and veterinary colonies, besides damaging the approach road to the government higher secondary school boys hostel, officials said. Arunachal asks Centre to review R-APDRP: Arunachal Pradesh has appealed to the Centre to review the provisions for implementation of the Restructure Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programmes (R-APDRP) in the state.

Power (Electrical) Minister Setong Sena during a meeting at New Delhi recently suggested that towns with population of 5000 and above should be taken up in place of those with 10,000 and above population in Arunachal Pradesh for power reforms, official sources informed.

Under R-APDRP schemes, IT consultants have been appointed and detailed project reports (DPRs) for Itanagar, Tezu, Roing, Pasighat, Aalo, Ziro, Daporijo, Seppa, Naharlagun and Namsai were being prepared for power reforms, the power minister told the meeting.

Highlighting the steps taken by the state government for electrification of village with an aim to provide power connection to every household, Sena said that a total of 781 un-electrified and 647 electrified villages have benefited by way of providing grid connectivity by June 2011.

Under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) altogether 20,264 rural household families have been provided with electricity, he said.

The meeting chaired by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde focussed on various initiatives taken by the union power ministry and emphasis was given on reduction of aggregate transmission and commercial power losses through various measures including implementation of the R-APDRP, the sources said.
