No infiltration from across LoC: Army

Jammu: There has been no infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir so far this year due to the heightened vigil of troops along the border with Pakistan, an army officer said on Saturday. General Officer Commanding of 16 Corps, Lt Gen JP Nehra said that there were approximately 400 terrorists waiting across the LoC to sneak into India, but they have not been able to succeed so far. “It is because our troops are vigilant on the LoC, they are equipped with sophisticated equipments that enables them to see clearly even during the bad weather or during night,” Nehra told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. 53 students fall ill after mid-day meal

Kurukshetra: Fiftythree students were taken ill after being served mid-day meal, suspected to be contaminated, in a government school in this Haryana district on Saturday, officials said. A probe has been ordered. Students complained of vomiting, headache and dizziness after the meal which was supplied by an NGO, said an official. “53 students of a primary school in Raha village in Pheowa block were rushed to hospital after they had the mid-day meal. They were complaining of vomiting, headache and dizziness. This food is supplied by an NGO,” said Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner CG Rajnikanthan. (IANS)

Treasure trove seized from IT official

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation has recovered a virtual treasure trove, including a silver brick and gold and diamond jewellery from arrested Income Tax Commissioner RP Meena, an official said here on Saturday. Meena — IT Commissioner (Appeals) — was nabbed red-handed last week while accepting a bribe and was on Saturday sent to further police custody till July 21. A locker with UCO Bank, Dausa, Rajasthan, which was opened by the CBI brought out over a kilo of gold jewellery and a silver brick weighing more than 1.33 kg, besides diamond jewellery. (IANS)
