Building permission made mandatory

 SHILLONG: The State Government has issued a fresh notification making it mandatory to take permission from the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority for taking up any type of construction within urban areas.

The Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws 2011 enforced in the urban areas provides for regulation of building activities as per the Provision of Earthquake resistance Construction of latest National Building Code to ensure safe and secure construction of buildings, an official press release said.

It was further mentioned that the government in Revenue and Disaster Management has prepared action plan on disaster preparedness which emphasized on preventive measures of building activities for the purpose.
